Ranbir Kapoor’s vaping scene in ‘The Bads of Bollywood’ creates controversy
Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor found himself at the centre of controversy following a scene in the series ‘The Bads of Bollywood’, in which he was seen vaping. The moment, featured prominently in the trailer and now available to stream, sparked criticism from health advocates and sections of the public who argued that it glamorised smoking-like behaviour, particularly for younger viewers.
After the series premiered, the scene continued to circulate widely on social media, prompting calls for greater responsibility in how substance use was portrayed on screen. Several anti-tobacco organisations urged the creators to include clear disclaimers and questioned the necessity of the scene.
Neither Kapoor nor the producers issued an official statement at the time, though sources close to the production maintained that the scene was contextually relevant to the character’s arc and not intended to promote vaping.
