Ram Gopal Varma locks Harshvardhan Rane for ‘Police Company’

Ram Gopal Varma has confirmed Harshvardhan Rane as the lead in ‘Police Company’, a biopic on Mumbai encounter specialist Daya Nayak. Backed by T‑Series, the film is currently in pre‑production and is scheduled to begin shooting in mid‑August 2026.

Varma, who has long been fascinated by Nayak’s career, previously explored similar themes in ‘Ab Tak Chhappan’. ‘Police Company’ will trace Nayak’s journey from his early years in Mangalore to his rise as one of Mumbai’s most recognisable officers during the city’s battle against organised crime.

The film is being positioned as part of Varma’s crime‑world slate, though it will stand apart from his earlier ‘Company’ films. For Harshvardhan Rane, the project marks a significant collaboration with Varma and a career milestone as he steps into the role of the controversial cop.

With T‑Series backing, ‘Police Company’ is expected to be mounted on a large scale, combining Varma’s gritty storytelling with mainstream reach.
