Government meets BARC India over landing‑page issue in ratings spat

The government has convened a high‑level meeting with senior officials from the Information & Broadcasting Ministry, BARC India and leading broadcasters to review ongoing concerns around television audience measurement. The session placed particular emphasis on the long‑running landing‑page dispute, which has become central to industry discussions on ratings integrity.

Officials sought clarity on how landing‑page placement may be influencing viewership data, pressing BARC for stricter compliance protocols and more transparent auditing. Broadcasters reiterated their position that landing pages remain a legitimate promotional tool, while competing networks argued that the practice distorts ratings and undermines fair competition.

The ministry is expected to issue further guidance once it reviews BARC’s submissions and industry responses.
