Fawad Khan’s ‘Abir Gulaal’ banned for release in India
Pakistani actor Fawad Khan’s highly anticipated comeback film ‘Abir Gulaal’ has been officially banned from release in India.
The decision follows the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, where gunmen opened fire on a group of tourists, injuring 26 at the popular destination. The tragic incident has heightened tensions and sparked widespread outrage across the nation.
According to sources within the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, several cinema halls expressed reluctance to screen the film, while multiple entertainment organisations called for its boycott. As a result, the ministry has decided to deny permission for its release.
Ashoke Pandit, President of the Indian Film & Television Directors’ Association, strongly opposed the film’s screening, stating: “This incident is nothing less than an act of war against the nation. Such attacks have been happening for the past 30 years. As a federation, we have repeatedly urged the industry to refrain from collaborating with Pakistani artists. While some justify this in the name of art and community, the nation must come first. If this tragedy had personally affected the loved ones of the actress or filmmakers involved, they would never have agreed to work on such a project.”

In response to the events, Fawad Khan condemned the attack in a heartfelt social media post, writing: “Deeply saddened to hear about the heinous act in Pahalgam. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families during this difficult time.”
This development continues to fuel heated debate over cross-border artistic collaborations amidst the ongoing geopolitical tensions.
