Ekta Kapoor on pitting her show ‘Kyunki’ against ‘Anupamaa’

Ekta Kapoor has addressed the growing online discourse comparing her iconic series ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ with Star Plus’s current hit ‘Anupamaa’, highlighting the unnecessary rivalry being fuelled by netizens.

In an interview with Brut, Kapoor expressed her disapproval of the tone adopted in several videos circulating online. “Yesterday, I came across videos suggesting that Anupamaa is facing issues because Kyunki is returning. I found that to be in extremely poor taste,” she remarked.

She went on to praise Anupamaa and its team: “Rupali [Ganguly] is a huge star. The creator, Rajan, has achieved something remarkable with Anupamaa—something few could pull off in the past seven years. The show will continue to hold the number one position, and rightly so.”

Kapoor firmly emphasised that her show’s return is motivated by a desire to tell its own story, rather than compete with existing content: “We’re coming in to tell our story. These constant comparisons between protagonists and shows are not only unwarranted—they’re divisive. Pitting women and creative work against each other serves no constructive purpose.”
