Birthday love: Fans choose their fave Shahid Kapoor movies
The talented Shahid Kapoor celebrates his birthday today and BizAsia thought it would do something extra-special to mark the occasion. We took to micro-blogging site Twitter to ask the actor’s fans which films they most loved him in. After an amazing response in just a matter of hours, we bring you the final list with the most popular five being highlighted. The films that made positions six-ten were (in that order) ‘R… Rajkumar’ (2013), ‘Ishq Vishk’ (2003), ‘Badmaash Company’ (2010), ‘Chup Chup Ke’ (2006) and ‘Dil Bole Hadippa’ (2009) (in joint place) and finally ‘Kismat Konnection’ (2008).
Take a look at the top five, chosen solely by fans, below.
5 – Squadron Leader Harinder Singh in ‘Mausam’ (2011)
Although the film received good reviews overall when it released, ‘Mausam’, directed by Kapoor’s father Pankaj Kapur was a film that saw Kapoor in a role he wasn’t seen previously in. Seeing him share the screen with Sonam Kapoor for the first time, the film worked its way through a series of seasons in a span of 10 years, as the title suggests. Kapoor was particularly praised for his performance as Harry and no doubt his innocence in the beginning of the story is what stole most people’s hearts.
4 – Charlie & Guddu Sharma in ‘Kaminey’ (2009)
Kapoor in Vishal Bhardwaj’s ‘Kaminey’ was quite simply a delight to watch. Playing twins who suffered from speech impediments, Kapoor portrayed both characters with ease. The film was compared with Hollywood standards at the time of release as it seemed to have its own sensibility as far as dark films go. Kapoor’s hand in that was immense it has to be said and the trophies he picked up that year reflect just that.
3 – Prem in ‘Vivah’ (2006)
What can be said about a film which many hold so close to their hearts? Rajshri are known for their sugary sweet love stories and ‘Vivah’ is no different. It brought Amrita Rao and Kapoor once again since their debut but this film was very different to their peppy start. Kapoor’s performance as Prem, which admittedly Salman Khan is known most for, well and truly put him in the chocolate boy category. His baby-faced good looks and that look of love in his eyes puts this film at number three.
2 – Haider Meer in ‘Haider’ (2014)
Kapoor’s rendition of William Shakespeare’s ‘Hamlet’ quite literally wowed the socks off any critics he may have had. With his loverboy and action hero roles behind him, in ‘Haider’, it seems as if this actor came of age all over again. Kapoor’s transformation into the often difficult to understand character of Haider was applause-worthy and award-worth. The actor has picked up all the best male lead awards going for his performance and one can only hope that the film serves as a benchmark for other producers and directors to cast Kapoor in roles that he will undoubtedly excel in.
1 – Aditya Kashyap in ‘Jab We Met’ (2007)
Kapoor’s award-winning performance in Imtiaz Ali directed ‘Jab We Met’ was perfect chocolate boy stuff. With his spectacles and stiffness, his character Aditya comes into his own having met and spent time with Geet, played by his then girlfriend Kareena Kapoor (now Khan). Although, sadly, the couple parted ways midway during the making of this film, neither expected that it would be such a big hit with the audiences. Kapoor’s transition from the first to the second half of the film is particularly evident of his immense talent as an actor and this is the film that got the most votes in our poll.
BizAsia would like to wish Shahid Kapoor a very happy birthday and also extend a big thanks to all the fans who got in touch with their favourites.
