Star Sports acquires rights to broadcast Lanka Premier League in India

Star Sports will broadcast the 2026 Lanka Premier League in India, with the tournament running from 17 July to 8 August and featuring full linear television coverage across the network’s cricket channels. Digital rights sit separately with FanCode, which will stream every match online.

The league enters its sixth season with record international interest. Anil Mohan Sankhdhar, founder and CEO of IPG Group and official rights holder of the LPL, said the surge in overseas registrations reflects the tournament’s rising global profile. He noted that more than 650 players from 21 countries have signed up, describing the league’s growth as part of a wider ambition to support Sri Lankan cricket, create opportunities for emerging talent and deliver a world‑class experience for fans across markets.

Tournament director Samantha Dodanwela said the new season marks another significant step in the LPL’s development, highlighting the mix of international stars and rising Sri Lankan players set to compete. He added that strong broadcast coverage, passionate supporters and high‑profile names would help deliver a memorable season of T20 cricket.

The 2026 edition will see Indian international Vijay Shankar make his LPL debut, joining a roster that includes Moeen Ali, Jimmy Neesham, Shakib Al Hasan and Taskin Ahmed. With Star Sports handling linear television and FanCode managing digital streaming, the league is positioned for broad visibility across India’s cricket‑viewing audience.
