Star Plus set to wield axe on ‘Sairaab’ due to poor response
Star Plus’ daily drama ‘Sairaab’ is heading towards an early exit after delivering an underwhelming response across its opening months. The show has struggled to stabilise following a wave of unwanted publicity triggered by the mid‑season recast of its male lead.
The production was forced into crisis mode in July when Rohit Chandel, who originally played Ishaan Ganguly opposite Madirakshi Mundle, was arrested under the POCSO Act. The Ghatkopar police detained the actor after a minor accused him of stalking, harassment and assault. The allegations remain subject to the ongoing legal process, but the disruption to the show was immediate and severe.
In response, the makers swiftly roped in Krishna Kaul to take over as Ishaan Ganguly. While Kaul’s entry briefly lifted curiosity levels, the recast failed to translate into sustained ratings momentum. Industry sources say the narrative reset, combined with the negative press surrounding the case, left the show unable to recover its early positioning.
