SongProof launches to simplify music copyright protection for creators
A new digital platform called SongProof is offering musicians a faster and cheaper way to protect their work using blockchain technology.
The service allows singers, songwriters, and producers to create a permanent, time-stamped record of ownership for their songs or lyrics, providing proof of authorship that cannot be changed or removed.
For decades, artists have faced challenges proving who created a song first, often leading to legal disputes or loss of royalties. SongProof aims to simplify this process. By uploading an audio file or lyrics, users receive a digital certificate linked to the specific file through cryptographic verification.
According to co-founder Hina Rizvi, an entertainment lawyer specializing in intellectual property, SongProof “puts protection and confidence in the hands of the creator.” The system uses blockchain — the same technology behind cryptocurrencies — to record each proof on a public ledger, ensuring transparency and security.

Unlike traditional copyright registration, which can take weeks and involve higher costs, SongProof generates proof of authorship within minutes. The platform also includes tools for documenting co-writer agreements, helping prevent disputes before they arise.
SongProof operates on the Bitcoin and Polygon blockchains, making it accessible to creators globally, including those in regions with limited copyright infrastructure. The company says future updates will include integrations with music platforms, verification links for collaborators, and educational partnerships to promote early-stage song protection.
Rizvi says the goal is to make music ownership verification as accessible and universal as possible, helping artists “protect everything they create — even the demos.”
