Sharvari reflects on working with Imtiaz Ali in ‘Main Vaapas Aaunga’

Actor Sharvari has spoken about her experience working with filmmaker Imtiaz Ali on the upcoming film ‘Main Vaapas Aaunga’, which has been gaining attention since the release of its teaser. The film marks her first collaboration with Ali, a director known for creating prominent and nuanced female characters in contemporary Hindi cinema.

Reflecting on the role, Sharvari described joining the project as a significant step in her career. She said that being chosen as the lead in an Imtiaz Ali film felt meaningful, particularly given his history of directing some of the industry’s most recognised female performances by actors including Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Anushka Sharma. According to her, working with Ali provided both creative validation and an opportunity to further explore her craft.

Sharvari referenced several of the director’s earlier characters – such as Geet from ‘Jab We Met’, Tara from ‘Tamasha’, and Veera from ‘Highway’ – noting their emotional depth and cultural impact. She said these roles have long served as inspirations and that the experience of being guided by Ali contributed to her growth as both an actor and an individual.

She added that the filmmaking process encouraged vulnerability and introspection, emphasising that Ali’s approach often requires performers to engage with complex emotional spaces. Sharvari described the experience as one that shaped her understanding of storytelling and influenced the type of work she hopes to pursue in the future.

‘Main Vaapas Aaunga’ is scheduled to release in theatres on 12th June 2026.
