Revealed: Details of Deepika Padukone’s role in ‘Happy New Year’

Farah Khan’s ‘Happy New Year’ finally went on the floors last week in Dubai. Leading lady Deepika Padukone flew straight from her vacation to the shoot. BizAsia has learnt that the actress will be playing a bar dancer in the movie.

Padukone’s character is revealed by an insider to Hindustan Times, “Deepika will play the role of an out-of-work bar dancer from Maharashtra (during the time when dance bars were banned). And her role will have significance in the lives of all the five leading men”. Following the intense schedule in Dubai, Padukone and the team will be flying to Goa to continue the shoot for the film.

The source continued, “They�۪re shooting for a song called ��Indiawaale�۪ in Dubai which is basically a song that represents the country. Since the actors are participating in a dance competition with contestants from various other countries, this song will be a cheer-leader anthem for the nation. All the men will be portrayed as atrocious dancers and Deepika will help them win the dance trophy”.

What with news that Padukone has landed the role in a prestigious Hollywood franchise, and also her three hits this year, the actress is sure to be excited to be working on such a movie alongside Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Vivaan Shah, Boman Irani and Sonu Sood.
