A screenshot of Rao’s reply has since gone viral, in which he stated that he was “pressurised” into participating in the campaign. The exchange has triggered fresh debate online about the circumstances under which public figures engage with political messaging, and the extent to which artists can distance themselves from such content once it resurfaces in a charged climate.
The user wrote, “I had huge respect for you, man… you lost it with one propaganda song!!! I never miss any of your movies, never thought you would sell off so easily, you were supposed to lead the new generation of artists… instead!!!”
