MATV confirmed to return as Apna MA TV with testing underway

MATV is set to return to the Sky platform under a new name, Apna MA TV, marking the broadcaster’s re‑entry into the UK television market after a period of regulatory action.

Earlier, Ofcom revoked two licences held by Middlesex Broadcasting Corporation Limited (MBCL) for the services MATV National and MATV Music. The regulator concluded that MBCL had ceased to provide both services and that effective control had shifted to a separate entity, MATV Broadcasting Limited, which had been operating the channels without the required licence.

MATV Broadcasting Limited, incorporated in 2008, has undergone several changes in ownership. Companies House filings show that Mr Kuldeep Singh Shekhawat served as the sole director and, between 2016 and July 2025, was listed as the individual with significant control. He held around 90% of the company’s shares between May 2020 and July 2025. Current records indicate that Mr Shekhawat remains a director but now holds 10% of shares, while Alpana Kuldeep Singh Shekhawat holds 65% and is listed as the sole person with significant control.

As of June 2025, Mr Shekhawat appeared to “control” MATV Broadcasting Limited for the purposes of Schedule 2 of the Broadcasting Act 1990. During this period, he also served as President of the Overseas Friends of the Bharatiya Janata Party (UK), a role Ofcom considered relevant when assessing his status as an “officer” of that organisation under the same legislation.

As previously reported, the new broadcasting licence for the channel is now held by Channel S, a Bengali broadcaster. Under this arrangement, MATV will return to air as Apna MA TV, restoring its presence on the Sky platform.
