Colors has confirmed that the period drama ‘Veer Shivaji’ is coming to an end next week, which will result in ‘Madhubala Ek Ishq Ek Junoon’ taking its place.

There has been a lot of talk of ‘Madhubala’, which is loosely based on the actress of the same name and her affair with superstar Dilip Kumar. However this has been denied by the producer of the show Saurabh Tewari. Instead, the show is now being positioned as a tribute to Indian cinema on the completion of 100 years.

Tewari said, “The first promo starts from 1991, and neither was Madhubala born in 1991, nor did she pass away then_ And moreover, there is no written fact that anything of that sort ever existed between the two (Madhubala and Dilip Kumar). Dilip saab is a living legend and we don۪t want to draw any controversy by defaming anyone. We started writing it and initially debated whether we should call it Meena Kumari or Madhuri…When we started shooting episodes and still calling it various names, but none of these names were giving us that punch, so we decided to name it Madhubala.۝

The show stars Vivian Dsena and Drashti Dhami playing the leads.

‘Madhubala Ek Ishq Ek Junoon’ launches on Monday 28th May at 20:30 on Colors.
