‘Koffee With Karan 6’ kicks off with Deepika-Alia’s girl power

The sixth season of ‘Koffee with Karan’ has kicked off on 21st October, on Star Plus and available on Hotstar. The first guest duo of the show were Deepika Padukone and Alia Bhatt, epitomising “girl power” from the get-go of this season.

On the same day that Deepika Padukone announced her wedding to beau Ranveer Singh, this episode comes as a welcome re-confirmation of their relationship and also their upcoming nuptials. In that sense, it’s interesting that the revelation of their wedding date happened on the same day as the broadcast of this episode because it would have caused quite a stir if their relation wasn’t confirmed before today.

In the same spirit, Bhatt’s relation with her co-star for ‘Brahmastra’ Ranbir Kapoor, which has been confirmed by the latter, also take some limelight even though Bhatt is careful on admitting anything outright, which will keep the fans and audiences guessing a little.

The most interesting revelations throughout the episode come in the form of Padukone explaining why she appreciates the relationship she has with her ex, Kapoor, now. She also talks about how she feels about Singh’s personality, with continuous hints from host Karan Johar and Bhatt about the forthcoming wedding. She said that she’s been in the same gym as Katrina Kaif at the same time before and how fond she is of Bhatt’s sister Shaheen. There is also talk about Johar’s messages to Singh, which he shows to Padukone – quite a moment for Johar who didn’t expect that such messages were shared. Aside from this, Bhatt also mentions how much he loves Varun Dhawan’s Instagram stories. She also highlights that Johar is her primary adviser when it comes to films and dating. The trio also spoke about an evening they spent together with Singh, Kapoor, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Johar at the latter’s place which they spoke about being in a comfortable energy for them all.

The rapid fire round is one that can be described as the highlight of the show. However, whereas before, Johar had added in a general knowledge quiz, this time he plays a social media type game with Bhatt and Padukone, prompting them to bring their phones to the podiums in the “games area”, making quirky requests of them both to do on their own social media. Another thing that was an addition was that Johar analysed with the two guests their Instagram posts when it came to them outing their relationships. This was an interesting addition to the show but it remains to be seen whether it’s also a part of forthcoming shows.

In conclusion, the two ladies sharing the couch definitely made for endearing viewing and they both seemed comfortably candid – as much as they could be. Their reactions also seemed unrehearsed which was fresh for season which follows one which often came across as being quite scripted.
