India vs Australia cricket not to air on television in UK?

With just a few days to go to the start of the Australia tour of India cricket series, it is still not clear whether the much talked about tournament will air on television in the UK.

The tour consists of two Twenty20 matches and five One Day Internationals. However, with the way things stand, the matches will stream exclusively on Star India’s digital platform, Hotstar. BizAsiaLive.com sources also confirmed that Star TV has currently no plans to show the matches, despite recently being the broadcaster of the Bangladesh Premier League in the UK on Star Gold.

With cricket being an expensive property, it seems UK broadcasters have been under immense pressure to justify the costs. With the advertising pie shrinking and audiences switching to digital platforms, traditional television has been facing an uphill task of late.

It has already been reported previously on BizAsiaLive.com that this year’s Indian Premier League is expected to stream exclusively on Hotstar, to help it ramp up subscriber numbers. Up until now, the Indian Premier League has been shown on ITV, Eurosport and Sky Sports in the UK.
