In Video: Trailer released for ‘Hamlet’ starring Riz Ahmed

Universal Pictures has released the official trailer for ‘Hamlet’, a contemporary adaptation of William Shakespeare’s classic tragedy.

The film stars Riz Ahmed in the title role and is directed by Aneil Karia. The cast also includes Morfydd Clark, Joe Alwyn, Sheeba Chadha, Avijit Dutt, Art Malik, and Timothy Spall.

Set within a wealthy British South-Asian family, the story follows Hamlet as he returns home for his father’s funeral and learns that his uncle Claudius plans to marry his mother. When Hamlet encounters his father’s ghost, who claims Claudius was responsible for his death, he becomes driven by the need for revenge while grappling with questions of morality, corruption, and his own mental state.

The adaptation combines Shakespeare’s original language with modern design elements, aiming to present themes of power, paranoia, and responsibility in a way that resonates with contemporary audiences.

‘Hamlet’ releases in cinemas from 6th February 2026.
