Dia Mirza on winning award for ZEE5 show ‘Kaafir’

Dia Mirza has always preserved everything she does with passion – be it her fight for the environment or acting and producing. Bagging the Gold Trophy at the prestigious Gold Awards, only endorses her acting prowess.

Dia’s excellent portrayal as Kainaaz Akhtar in ‘Kaafir’ had won the actress critical acclaim ever since the series released in June. The actress plays the role of a young Pakistani woman wrongly imprisoned and separated from her family.

Dia’s reaction to her award is a humbling one. “It’s an honour to be chosen to tell a story like Kaafir and I will forever be grateful to Bhavani Iyer for writing it, Sonam Nair for directing it and Siddharth and Sapna Malhotra for choosing me to act in it. I’d like to thank my co-stars Mohit Raina and little Dishita as well. Winning this award is a wonderful acknowledgment of our collective effort and this humane story.” the actress said.

Incidentally, ‘Kaafir’ has also bagged Best Web series OTT (Critics). The movie is an honest depiction of the ground reality in Kashmir and how lives have been torn apart by the state of affairs With a complex storyline fuelled by the cross-border struggle in India and Pakistan, ‘Kaafir’ revolves around Kainaz’s struggle to freedom. Held prisoner under the suspicion of being a militant, Kainaaz fights the separation and anguish of being torn apart from her country – all this while tending to her little daughter and making her believe that the world believes in justice and equality. This role is a once in a life time opportunity that Dia has lived with all honesty.
