Content from Colors TV begins roll out on Hotstar in UK
Following the huge merger between Disney Star and Reliance’s Viacom18 late last year, a series of strategic changes have gradually begun to take effect across both linear and digital platforms.
On the broadcast front, flagship channels such as Star Plus and Colors initiated cross-promotional activity and begun sharing film titles days into the merger, reflecting a more integrated approach to programming. Meanwhile, the digital assets, Disney+ Hotstar and JioCinema, have been consolidated into a single entity, Jio Hotstar earlier this year.
As part of this digital transformation, content from the Colors library has, for the first time, become available to UK audiences via Hotstar UK. It is important to note that, due to existing rights agreements, the platform continues to operate under the Hotstar branding in the UK, although a transition to Jio Hotstar may be forthcoming.
Historically, Colors programming has not been accessible on any official Viacom18 platform in the UK, as services such as JioCinema and Voot were not available in their full capacity within the region.
