‘Grand Masti’, the sequel to 2004’s ‘Masti’, released today and has become one of the year’s biggest openers. First day collections for the film have been excellent in India.

‘Grand Masti’ has had a strong first day with an average of 60-65% occupancy and full house screenings, especially in major cities, according to Box Office India. The film is poised to possibly achieving the fourth best opening of 2013 after ‘Race 2’, ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ and ‘Chennai Express’ last month.

Touted as an adult comedy, the film has come under the spotlight of controversy in some regions of the sub continent. The movie sees Vivek Oberoi, Riteish Deshmukh and Aftab Shivdasani reprise the roles of the prequel when the characters meet for a college reunion.

Last week’s ‘Zanjeer’ proved a debacle of sorts with just 14 crores collection figures after one week. It’s rival ‘Shuddh Desi Romance’ did considerably better with 34 crores for the first week.
