BBC summoned by India court over Narendra Modi documentary
The BBC has been summoned by the Delhi High Court in a defamation case over a documentary about the 2002 Gujarat riots involving India prime minister, Narendra Modi.
The documentary, which aired in February questioned Modi’s leadership during the riots. After the broadcast, the BBC’s offices in Delhi and Mumbai were inspected by Indian tax officials as a result of an angry response the the Indian government.
Modi’s government branded the documentary a biased “propaganda piece” and blocked sharing of any clips from it on social media.
