Bappi Lahiri set to direct his first feature film
As the music maestro turns 65, Bappi Lahiri is ready to embark on a new venture as a director. Having given 50 years of his career producing dance-floor worthy songs for all generations, this new project will see the singer-composer direct a feature film.
Reported by ZEE News, Lahiri spoke about his new journey in the director’s seat. He said, “I always think I should keep doing something every year. This time, I will begin a big journey as a director of a feature film. It’s a huge journey.”
Though this will be Lahiri’s first feature film, the director’s seat isn’t completely alien to him as he once directed a documentary called ‘Slumstars’. His new project is titled – ‘Ek Adhura Sangeet’, the singer makes comparisons to how music plays an important part in people’s lives. “Like the song ‘Zindagi mera gaana, main isi ka deewana… I am a disco dancer’… Without music, people’s lives are incomplete… Music can bring happiness in life. So, this is a journey that I am beginning.”
Lahiri describes the topic of the film as ‘good’ and is confident it will do well. “After doing 600 films across Hindi, Bengali, Telugu, Tamil, Oriya and Gujarati languages, I have gained a lot of experience. So, I thought I should give it a try. Maybe it does well. My wife Chitrani had produced ‘Lal Darja’ which won a National Award in 1997… Whatever film I make, it won’t be average. I can’t say it will be superhit, but nobody will say it’s a bad film. I am confident I will make a good film, whether it works or not.”
Apart from ‘Ek Adhura Sangeet’, Lahiri has a few other projects he has been working on, one of which may see his son work in Hollywood? “My son Bappa and I are working with a Latin group,” explains Lahiri, who further added that it could be possible one day that his son is noticed by Hollywood director.
BizAsiaLive.com wishes Lahiri a very happy 65th birthday.
