Amaal Mallik deletes social media post about cutting ties from parents
Music composer Amaal Mallik has deleted a deeply personal social media post in which he opened up about severing ties with his parents and battling clinical depression.
Amaal, the son of Daboo Malik and brother of singer Armaan Malik, attributed his growing distance from his brother to issues within their family.
Following the post’s widespread attention, Amaal took to Instagram Stories to clarify his stance, writing, “Thank you for the love and support. It truly means a lot, but I would request media portals not to harass my family… Please don’t sensationalise or give negative headlines to my vulnerability. It’s taken a lot for me to open up, and this is a very tough time for me. I will always love my family, but for now, from afar. Nothing changes between us brothers—Armaan and I are one, and nothing can come between us. Love & Peace.”
On Thursday, Amaal’s original post took many by surprise. In it, he reflected on his journey in the music industry alongside his brother, stating, “My brother’s vocal prowess and my music have changed the narrative of being called XYZ’s nephew or son to who we are today. The journey has been incredible for both of us, but the actions of my parents have caused a rift between us. This has left a deep scar on my heart.”

He went on to reveal his decision to distance himself from his family, stressing that any future interactions would be strictly professional.
“I stand at a point where I have been robbed of my peace, drained emotionally, and maybe even financially—but that’s the least of my concerns. What truly matters is that I am clinically depressed because of these events,” he shared.
Concluding his post, he wrote, “Today, with a heavy heart, I announce that I am stepping away from these personal ties. From now on, my interactions with my family will remain strictly professional.”
