Akshaye Khanna proudly receives Vinod Khanna’s Dadasaheb Phalke award

The 65th National Film Awards saw an emotional moment as Akshaye Khanna accepted the Dadasaheb Phalke Award honouring his late father Vinod Khanna.

“We are really proud as a family. It is a bittersweet moment for us. I wish my father was here to receive this award. I am missing him. It is an emotional day for us,” Khanna told PTI ahead of the ceremony, humbled to be receiving the award on his father’s behalf.

Wife Kavita Khanna shared a similar sentiment, “It’s such a happy occasion and time of great pride for us, for the family, for all his fans and for everyone who loves him. There’s also a sense of his not being here to receive it.”, adding that, “But I am so happy Akshaye is going to receive it on his behalf… There can be no one better than Akshaye to receive this on his behalf.”

Vinod Khanna was honoured for the impact his work has made on Bollywood. From ‘Mere Apne’ to ‘Dabangg’, his decades-long career was filled with iconic films spanning all genres. Khanna also had an illustrious political career as a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the minister for Culture and Tourism, and the Minister of State for external affairs.
