Akshay Kumar to play double role in Anees Bazmee’s ‘Ram Aur Shyam’

Akshay Kumar is set to take on a double role in director Anees Bazmee’s upcoming film ‘Ram Aur Shyam’, a fresh reimagining of the classic twin-themed narrative. The film, which has been in development for several months, will begin shooting in March 2026, according to reports.

Bazmee, known for his flair in blending comedy and drama in hits like ‘Welcome’ and ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’, has chosen Akshay to portray the contrasting characters of Ram and Shyam, one timid and the other bold. The casting puts an end to speculation that actors like Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, and Kartik Aaryan were being considered for the role.

This marks a return to dual roles for Akshay, who previously impressed audiences with similar performances in films like ‘Aflatoon’ and ‘Rowdy Rathore’. With Bazmee’s signature storytelling and Akshay’s versatility, ‘Ram Aur Shyam’ is expected to be a performance-driven entertainer with emotional depth and comic timing.

The film is not a remake of the 1967 Dilip Kumar classic, but rather a modern interpretation tailored for today’s audience. Fans can look forward to a dynamic cinematic experience when the film hits production early next year.
