ZEE Sports launches first beam outside India

ZEE Network’s “homegrown” sports channel ZEE Sports has launched outside India for the first since its inception three years ago.

From this week, ZEE Sports will be made available to viewers in the USA on EchoStar Communications Corporation’s Dish Network satellite TV service.

“ZEE Sports is the first homegrown Indian sports channel and through its grassroots activities, redefines the traditional role of a television channel. Launching in the US is the first step in its continued attempts to spread its wings,” Himanshu Mody, CEO, ZEE Sports, said.

ZEE Sports America will televise programming beamed from India with local output also being worked on.

There were reports earlier suggesting a UK launch of ZEE Sports being on the cards, however due to rights restrictions, this has been put on hold until further notice.

ZEE Network is launching its own Indian Cricket League next month, which means the broadcaster will hold exclusive rights of matches played a part of the league. This could also path the way for a UK feed of ZEE Sports.

As always, keep it with BizAsia.co.uk for the very latest.
