UK implements ban on junk food TV ads before 9pm
A government ban on junk food advertising aimed at reducing childhood obesity has officially come into force today.
The new rules prohibit television adverts for products high in fat, sugar, and salt before 9pm and impose a complete ban on such advertising online.
The restrictions cover 13 categories of products and will be enforced by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA). Although the regulations take effect today, the UK advertising industry has been voluntarily following them since October to ensure compliance with the government’s guidelines.
The measures are part of a broader effort to address rising rates of childhood obesity and limit children’s exposure to unhealthy food marketing.
