Sunny Deol to lead Hanuman-centric musical film

Sunny Deol is widely reported to be the frontrunner for the lead role in an ambitious new musical centred on Hanuman. The casting would mark a significant continuation of Deol’s association with the mythological hero, as he is already set to portray Hanuman in Nitesh Tiwari’s forthcoming epic ‘Ramayana’.

The musical will be helmed by Namit Malhotra, who is also collaborating with Tiwari on ‘Ramayana’, co‑starring Ranbir Kapoor. Internally described as a “mythological pop‑opera with thunderous action”, the project is rumoured to be the second major instalment in the expanding Ramayan Universe (R‑Verse).

A source close to the production revealed: “The moment they saw the initial writing of Hanuman’s sequences in ‘Ramayana’, the team knew he needed his own stage. And Sunny paaji’s name kept coming up — who else could embody him better, especially as he is already part of the original vision.”

Insiders suggest the film will fuse legend with spectacle, combining soaring musical numbers, high‑octane set pieces, aerial combat, flaming‑torch choreography, and a twelve‑minute battle hymn. The makers are said to be planning interconnected storylines in the vein of the Avengers franchise, with Hanuman positioned as their equivalent of the Hulk, unstoppable, adored, and built for grandeur.
