Sikh Channel in trouble over election coverage

The Sikh Channel has been rapped by media regulator, Ofcom for broadcasting unbiased coverage during the General Elections earlier this year.

Ofcom received a complaint that a programme, included a contribution from a Conservative party general election candidate and did not have any contributions from other political parties.

In its rules and regulations, Ofcom states that if a candidate takes part in an item about his/her particular constituency, or electoral area, then candidates of each of the major parties must be offered the opportunity to take part.

Ofcom concluded that the broadcaster ensures impartiality is strictly maintained at the time of elections with respect to specific constituencies.
