Sanjay Leela Bhansali & Ketan Mehta collaborate for ‘Jai Somnath’

Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Ketan Mehta have officially announced their next feature film, ‘Jai Somnath’, a sweeping period drama set against one of the most defining chapters in early Indian history. The film will explore the events of 1025–1026 CE, when Mahmud of Ghazni launched his notorious attack on the Somnath Temple in Gujarat.

Positioned as a large‑scale historical spectacle, ‘Jai Somnath’ will revisit the devastation of the Ghazni invasion and the destruction that followed, while also engaging with the temple’s remarkable story of resilience and reconstruction across the centuries. The narrative aims to blend historical authenticity with a broader reflection on cultural endurance and spiritual identity.

The film will be produced under the banners of Bhansali Productions and Maya Movies. Ketan Mehta will serve as writer and director, while Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s involvement signals a visually ambitious and meticulously crafted cinematic treatment.

‘Jai Somnath’ is currently slated for release in 2027, with further casting and production details expected to be announced in due course.
