Rajkumar Santoshi opposes title change of next ‘Lahore 1947’ with Sunny Deol & Shabana Azmi
Filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi has addressed speculation regarding a possible change to the title of his forthcoming film ‘Lahore 1947’, produced by Aamir Khan and starring Sunny Deol and Shabana Azmi.
The rumours stem from concerns over the current political climate, with some suggesting that an Indian production should not reference a Pakistani city in its title. Santoshi, however, has unequivocally dismissed the notion, asserting his firm opposition to any such alteration.
He stated that he is “totally against any such decision”, describing it as an act of appeasement. While acknowledging that the final decision lies with producer Aamir Khan, Santoshi made it clear that he does not endorse changing the title to sidestep political sensitivities. For him, ‘Lahore 1947’ represents far more than a film—it is a passion project he has cherished for nearly two decades. Altering the title, he believes, would compromise the integrity and essence of the narrative.
