Raja Krishna Menon on ‘Airlift’ snub at awards ceremonies

Raja Krishna Menon’s ‘Airlift’ (2016) was appreciated by many when it released. Akshay Kumar’s performance was also lauded but the critics and audiences. However, the fact that it’s been widely left out of awards nominations has come as a surprise for many. Director Raja Krishna Menon has opened up about this snub.

“Airlift got immense love from the audiences. Even today, a year-and-a-half after its release, it’s a film that is talked about. How many award-winning films can claim the same? I’ll prefer the love of the audience any day over the trophies that gather dust in some remote corner of one’s house,” said Menon, according to Deccan Chronicle.

Menon went on to say that work remains his focus, “Honestly, the only thing that I can control during the process of filmmaking is to try and do the best possible job of making the film. It’s best not to think about anything else”.

There were recent reports that as Kumar wasn’t able to accept an invitation to perform at an awards ceremony, his name was subsequently removed from the nominations list.
