Pooja Bhatt to helm web series focusing on women’s sexuality

Pooja Bhatt

Pooja Bhatt is no stranger to controversial cinema, so it comes to no surprise that she is looking to be a part of a web series that will focus on the sexuality on women.

As reported byTimes of India, Bhatt wants to make a 12-part web series focusing on 12 women exploring their sexuality. Each series will include a different actress, where Bhatt herself will direct the first three or four episodes.

The idea was inspired by a series of stories written by Indian activist and writerMahasweta Devi in a book of short stories titled ‘Breast Stories’ (1997), which all talk about the autonomy of women’s bodies.

Explaining herself as to why she had decided to focus on such a subject, Bhatt was reported stating, “As my father says, “We are what we lie”. But for me bold is the truth. I am at that stage in life where I want to be provoked into going to the sets. Bold is not posing in a swimsuit or stripping, it’s talking about taboo subjects like orgasm, which even today is a mystery to most women with 80 per cent of them never having experienced one before.”

Talking of how well she has been able to push the boundaries, Bhatt went onto reference her previous project, “In most of our films only the bad girl is allowed to enjoy sex, I not only made ‘Paap’ (2003) about a girl torn between love and celibacy, but in ‘Jism 2’ (2012) humanised a porn star.”
