Pakistan braced for launch of dating reality show inspired by ‘Love Island’

Pakistan is preparing to enter uncharted territory in the realm of reality television with the launch of its first-ever dating show, ‘Lazawal Ishq’, hosted by popular actress Ayesha Omar.

The series, which has been filmed in Istanbul, Turkey, is being promoted as “a reality show about finding eternal love, and the trials and lessons leading up to it.”

Inspired by international formats such as ‘Love Island’, ‘Lazawal Ishq’ brings together eight contestants, four men and four women, who will live together in a luxury villa, navigating romantic connections, challenges, and shifting alliances. The show promises high production values, dramatic twists, and emotional storytelling, all tailored for an Urdu-speaking audience.

While the concept may echo familiar global formats, its execution is expected to be distinctly local. The show’s producers face a delicate balancing act, given the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA)’s strict guidelines on on-screen intimacy and cultural representation. As such, ‘Lazawal Ishq’ is likely to be released on an OTT platform, rather than traditional television, allowing for greater creative freedom without alienating family-oriented viewers.
