Ofcom grants Asian Sound Radio a power increase

Ofcom has agreed to Asian Sound Radio’s request and granted a three decibel power increase to both Haslingden and Ashton Moss transmitters.

Asian Sound Radio wrote to Ofcom on the 28th of November 2019 about large gaps in their coverage on the AM frequencies. The commercial Asian Radio station which has been catering to diverse ethnic communities across the North West for the past 25 years, discovered that other radio stations also on 963AM and 1377AM frequencies were infiltrating their coverage area.

The trusted Asian radio station observed that this was recurring predominantly in the evening time and during poor weather conditions which were causing inconvenience to their loyal listeners.

Chief Executive Officer of Asian Sound Radio, Shafat Ali said, “I am delighted to hear that Ofcom has agreed to increase power level on both 1377 and 963 AM (MW). However, we will be monitoring the frequencies to see whether it is adequate for Asian Sound Radio to provide our loyal listeners with uninterrupted coverage. We take pride in keeping our listeners well-informed and entertained 24*7!”
