Netflix to stream Discovery JEET content

Streaming giant, Netflix has agreed a deal to stream content from the soon-to-launch Hindi GEC, Discovery JEET.

The channel, which launches in India on 12th February, will go head-to-head with Star Plus, Colors, ZEE TV and Sony Entertainment Television. Its initial output will consist of five hours of daily original programmes, which will be available in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

Some of the shows confirmed for launch are ‘Ramdev-The Untold Story’, ’21 Sarfarosh: Saragarhi 1897′ and ‘Mere Papa Hero Hiralal’.

Talking about the arrangement, Karan Bajaj, senior vice-president (V-P) and general manager—South Asia, Discovery Communications India told LiveMint,“Netflix is going to be an exclusive platform for the content of Discovery JEET. We tied up with Netflix because the platform has a global footprint and its values of disruptive content are similar to Discovery’s. In its first year, Discovery JEET will be doing 1,000 hours of original programming.”
