Netflix announces season two of ‘Kohrra’

Netflix has officially announced the return of its critically acclaimed crime drama ‘Kohrra’, confirming that the multiple award-winning series will be back for a second season. Set against the atmospheric backdrop of Punjab, the gripping whodunnit made a powerful impact with its raw storytelling, layered characters and deep exploration of social and psychological complexities. Following the resounding success of its debut season, ‘Kohrra’ is set to expand its dark, compelling universe with a brand-new chapter.

Season one was widely lauded for its distinctive blend of crime and emotion, elevated by exceptional performances that brought its intricate narrative to life. The series resonated with audiences across the globe, earning widespread acclaim and more than 20 awards recognising both the show and its creators. Among its notable achievements, ‘Kohrra’ recently won the Best Series Award in Melbourne and, closer to home, dominated several categories at Indian award ceremonies, including Best Web Series, Best Actor, Best Ensemble, Best Editing and Best Cinematography.

The upcoming season also welcomes a significant new addition to the cast in the form of Mona Singh. A much-loved and highly respected performer, Singh has earned praise for her work in shows such as ‘Kaala Paani’, consistently bringing depth and gravitas to the characters she portrays. Audiences can expect to see her in a strikingly new light in ‘Kohrra’. Returning for season two is breakout star Barun Sobti, who received widespread appreciation for his nuanced portrayal of Garundi, a young police officer striving to do his job with integrity while navigating a murky murder investigation and his own personal conflicts.

Season two will centre on a fresh murder mystery, weaving together family dynamics, hidden secrets and complex interpersonal relationships, all set against the fog-laden landscapes of Punjab that have become integral to the show’s identity.

The series will be directed by showrunner, producer and co-creator Sudip Sharma, alongside Faisal Rahman, and produced by Act Three Productions and Film Squad Productions. The new season marks Sudip Sharma’s debut as a producer under Act Three Productions, as well as his first time directing the series.

Speaking about the show’s return, Tanya Bami said, “‘Kohrra’ is a show that has been loved, lauded and has almost developed a cult following. Fans have been eagerly awaiting season two, and we’re delighted to announce that we’ll soon be going into production. We’re excited to dive deeper into the unique, intriguing and complex world created by Sudip Sharma, Diggi and Gunjit. What makes this season even more special is that Sudip is taking on multiple roles as showrunner, director and producer. With Mona Singh joining Barun Sobti, the show reaches an even wider audience, and we’re excited to take season two to new heights.”

Adding to this, co-creator and showrunner Sudip Sharma shared, “‘Kohrra’ has been more than just a series for us — it’s a piece of our hearts. We’ve poured everything we have into this story, and seeing the love it has received has been incredibly moving. That response has inspired us to return with something even more powerful. We remain committed to telling stories that feel real, that reflect the lives of real people with honesty and authenticity, and that’s exactly what audiences will see in the new season on Netflix.”
