Lamhe to launch on Freeview in UK

ZEE Network’s second entertainment channel, Lamhe will be launching on Freeview in the Greater Manchester area this week, BizAsia can confirm.

The channel joins Sony SAB TV, which up until now was the only Asian channel to be available on the Freeview platform. Lamhe will be available as part of the basic digital terrestrial (Freeview) service as part of the Manchester Television Network (MTN). It is estimated that the channel has the potential to reach 1.2 million homes on the Freeview platform alone, extending the total reach of Lamhe to over 13 million homes in the UK.

Archana Kanade, Business Head – Free-To-Air Channels: Lamhe has been going from strength to strength in a short period of time since it started broadcasting earlier this year in June. The channel offers a distinct viewing experience by offering content that is not available anywhere else and it is outperforming other GEC channels that have been in the market for longer and beating them at certain slots since being BARB rated. Over 10% of Manchester۪s population is South Asian, with Freeview being a popular platform here. It is great that an even wider audience will now be able to enjoy the unique offerings of Lamhe.۝

Ed Hall, Chief Executive, Canis Media: I am delighted that Lamhe is launching on the Manchester Television Network. The south Asian community in the North West will benefit from a great new channel, and it shows how our belief in the value of mainstream television to a wide range of broadcasters is proving well-founded. Freeview is no longer just for the biggest broadcasters, but for specialist channels delivering top quality content to target audiences.۝

Lamhe is also available free-to-air on Sky Digital channel 798.
