Javed Akhtar files defamation case against Kangana Ranaut

Lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar has reportedly filed a case against Kangana Ranaut under sections 499 (defamation) and section 500 (punishment for defamation) of Indian Penal Code.

Pinkvilla reveals that Akhtar has recently submitted his written statement before the Metropolitan Magistrate court in Mumbai’s Andheri, claiming that Ranaut made defamatory comments against him in interviews, harming his reputation.

Ranaut in an interview had labelled Akhtar as part of the ‘suicide gang’ and said that he had even threatened her to stay quiet on the Hrithik Roshan controversy. “Once Javed Akhtar had called me to his house and told me that Rakesh Roshan and his family are very big people. If you don’t apologise to them, you will have nowhere to go. They will put you in jail, and eventually, the only path would be that of destruction, you will commit suicide. These were his words,” shared the actress.

Replying to the news of Akhtar recording his statement, Ranaut tweeted, “Single woman/lone warrior fighting against Bullywood suicide gang, drug mafia, fascist government, tukde gang all at once, I may have chosen a difficult life but it’s an honour to awaken my nation to all the threats we face against our unity and integrity.”

As per reports, the case is to be heard by the court on the 19th of December, 2020.
