‘Homebound’ shortlisted for Best International Feature at Oscars 2026

Indian cinema has achieved a major milestone as Neeraj Ghaywan’s ‘Homebound’ has been officially shortlisted for the Best International Feature Film category at the upcoming 98th Academy Awards. The announcement, made on 16th December 2025, places the film among 15 titles advancing to the next round of voting.

Backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, the film stars Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor. Inspired by real incidents, ‘Homebound’ follows the story of childhood friends Shoaib and Chandan, who dream of joining the police force, exploring themes of friendship, resilience, and social realities.

The shortlist marks a significant triumph for Indian cinema, with producer Karan Johar celebrating the achievement on social media: “We made the shortlist. Way to go team Homebound!” Actor Vishal Jethwa also expressed his pride, calling the moment “surreal”.

While only five films from the shortlist will ultimately secure nominations, the recognition itself underscores the film’s growing international acclaim. The final nominations will be announced on 22 January 2026, ahead of the Oscars ceremony later that year.
