‘Gullak 5’ on Sony LIV: What to expect from the new season

Sony LIV has announced the return of its popular slice-of-life series ‘Gullak’, with the fifth season set to premiere on 5th June.

The show becomes one of the few Hindi originals to reach a fifth instalment, marking a milestone in India’s streaming landscape.

Produced by The Viral Fever (TVF), the series continues to follow the everyday lives of the Mishra family, a middle-class household whose experiences have resonated with audiences across multiple seasons. Known for its focus on small, relatable moments, ‘Gullak’ has built a consistent following since its debut.

The upcoming season introduces changes within the Mishra home while retaining the familiar setting. The household sees small upgrades, including a renewed living space and the addition of modern conveniences, reflecting gradual shifts in lifestyle. At the same time, the narrative continues to centre on everyday interactions and family dynamics.

Season five explores new developments in the lives of the characters. Annu faces ongoing pressure to establish himself while grappling with self-doubt. Aman returns with a more reserved outlook, suggesting personal changes that are yet to be explored. Meanwhile, Shanti’s character takes on a slightly different dimension as she experiences visibility through an online identity, reflecting the increasing role of digital platforms in everyday life.

Talking about the new season, Vijay Koshy, President, TVF shared, “With every season, ‘Gullak’ has only grown closer to audiences because the Mishras feel like a family we all know. Season 5 reflects the changing realities of middle-class India while holding onto the warmth and simplicity that make the show special. This season is about growth, change, and the bittersweet feeling of moving forward while staying connected to your roots.”

Geetanjali Kulkarni added, “Shanti has always been the emotional anchor of the Mishra family, but this season audiences will see a slightly different side to her – one that’s adapting to a rapidly changing world in her own unique way. What I love most about ‘Gullak’ is how honestly it captures everyday life, and I think that’s why people see themselves in these characters year after year.”

The series features returning cast members including Jameel Khan, Geetanjali Kulkarni, Harsh Mayar, Sunita Rajwar and Helly Shah, with Anant Joshi stepping into the role of Annu for the new season.

‘Gullak 5’ will be available to stream exclusively on Sony LIV from 5th June.
