Eros International to sue makers of ‘Tere Ishk Mein’ for trademark infringement
Eros International has initiated legal action against filmmaker Aanand L Rai and his company, Colour Yellow Media Entertainment LLP, alleging that the upcoming film ‘Tere Ishk Mein’ was promoted as a “spiritual sequel” to ‘Raanjhanaa’ without authorisation.
Eros, which backed Rai’s 2013 film ‘Raanjhanaa’, has accused the director and associated parties of trademark infringement, copyright infringement and passing off. The company claims that the marketing of ‘Tere Ishk Mein’ intentionally created an impression that it was connected to ‘Raanjhanaa’, despite no rights having been granted.
The suit also names several additional parties, including Super Cassettes Industries (T‑Series), writer Himanshu Sharma, and Netflix Entertainment Services India LLP, alleging their involvement in the unauthorised association.

In its filing, Eros asserts that it is the producer and “exclusive owner of all intellectual property rights” relating to ‘Raanjhanaa’. This includes copyright, registered trademarks, character rights — such as those for Kundan Shankar and Murari, as well as remake, prequel and sequel rights. The complaint states that any attempt to position ‘Tere Ishk Mein’ as a continuation of the earlier film infringes upon these protected rights.
