Deepika Padukone: “Why are cricketers not asked about #MeToo”

The storm over Bollywood actors being named and shamed in the #MeToo movement last year has certainly calmed down. However, reviving the conversation, Deepika Padukone has questioned why other sectors outside Bollywood are not being questioned about sexual allegations.

In Shekhar Gupta’s talk show ‘Off The Cuff’, Padukone was asked about the #MeToo campaign, which peaked last year. She said, “Actors are brought on platforms and are expected to give our opinions on everything. Why are businessmen not asked these questions, why does someone not ask Ratan Tata what he thinks about Aarey, why are cricketers not asked about MeToo.”

She added, “So, sure, I don’t think I’m in any kind of place to say if I would expose myself to a forum. You can ask me whatever question you want, but why subject it only to a film star?”

Padukone will next be seen in two films ‘Chhapaak’ and the cricket drama ’83’ co-starring husband, Ranveer Singh.
