BBC begins changes ahead of news channel merger in April 2023
The BBC has begun making changes to its news channels ahead of the merger between BBC News and BBC World News.
From April 2023, the domestic and international services will be transformed into one single channel. During UK daytime hours, the channel will broadcast from its London studios. Overnight hours, the service will broadcast from Singapore and Washington DC.
The new channel will continue to bring any major UK stories from its London stories. Meanwhile, a new live and breaking news team will provide universally available coverage of global breaking stories.
Confirming the plans last year, BBC News Digital Director Naja Nielsen said, “The channel will be broadcast around the world, bringing the BBC’s trusted journalism to international audiences and providing licence fee payers in the UK with ad-free access to a huge range and breadth of international coverage which hasn’t previously been available to them.

“It will feature new flagship programmes built around high-profile journalists, and programmes commissioned for multiple platforms.”
It was reported this week that the current BBC News channel is expected to axe 14 presenters as a part of its forthcoming plans. The channel has also axed the ‘BBC Paper Review’, which aired at 22:30 and 23:30 each night.
