Asian Media Awards 2025 winners announced

Journalists, filmmakers, and content creators gathered in Manchester for the 13th Asian Media Awards, celebrating achievements across journalism, television, radio, stage, and digital platforms.

The event, supported by the University of Salford, took place at The Manchester Deansgate Hotel and was hosted by Sky Sports presenter Bela Shah.

Channel 4’s Home Affairs Correspondent Darshna Soni received the Journalist of the Year award, while the Best Investigation honour went to the BBC’s Noor Nanji for her MasterChef investigation. Ushma Mistry from BBC CWR was named Regional Journalist of the Year, and Sky’s Amrit Singh Mann took home the Outstanding Young Journalist award.

Sharing the news of his win on social media, Mann said: “I’m incredibly honoured to win this award. Over the past four years, I’ve been fortunate to work within a brilliant team at Sky News and to tell important stories.

It remains a privilege to do what I do, and I’m as committed as ever to accurate, independent, and impartial reporting.

This award is a huge encouragement to keep doing that work. I’m deeply grateful to everyone who has supported me along the way – my colleagues, mentors, friends, and family.”

The Media Personality of the Year went to comedian and presenter Romesh Ranganathan, while Miriam Walker-Khan won Sports Journalist of the Year. The Report of the Year was awarded to Woman, Life, Surveillance, highlighting censorship and resistance in Iran.

Actor and playwright Sudha Bhuchar received the Sophiya Haque Services to British Television, Film and Theatre Award for her four-decade contribution to the arts. Other winners included Amol Rajan Goes To The Ganges for Best Programme, Virdee for Best Show, and Shebz Miah for Best TV Character.

On stage, Maimuna Memon was named Best Newcomer, Expendable won Best Stage Production, and Azan Ahmed earned Outstanding Performance on Stage.

Waseem Mahmood OBE, one of the pioneers of British Asian broadcasting, was honoured with the Outstanding Contribution to Media Award.

In digital and broadcast categories, Boxing King Media won Best Video Channel, DesiBlitz took Best Blog/Website, and Tez Ilyas and Shy’s Making a Husband Podcast was named Best Podcast. Sunrise Radio won Radio Station of the Year, while founder of BizAsiaLive.com Raj Baddhan was recognised as Radio Presenter of the Year.

Campaign honours went to Intent Health’s ‘No Stone Unturned’ Kidney Health Campaign, and ITV Central received the Diversity in Media Award for its commitment to representation.
