It seems that Alia Bhatt has become the favourite contender for on-screen adaption of Chetan Bhagat’s novels. This might be the reason why after being featured in ‘2 States’ (2014), the actress has now been approached to play the leading character in the on-screen adaption of India’s best-selling author’s upcoming novel Half Girlfriend.

After surfacing of reports that Bhagat is also planning to turn producer with the upcoming venture, now it is being aired that the author has joined Mohit Suri and Ekta Kapoor as his co-producers for the flick.

The novel will hit the stores across India and UAE tomorrow. However, the industry is abuzz with the speculations that who will be signed to essay the role of Riya, a posh girl belonging to Delhi and in the leading character of the book.

Even ahead of the release of the book, it has been reported, “Riya is a student at St Stephen’s and has an air of self-importance around her. But that is just her exterior.”

The reports also suggested that Kriti Sanon and Huma Qureshi are also being considered for the role but the source has rubbished the speculations, saying, “No, they are just launching the book.” A source told IANS.

However, the source has confirmed that now Bhatt is being considered for the role. “It’s a role tailor-made for Alia and both Mohit and Chetan believe that Alia, who had earlier played Ananya Swaminathan in 2 States, based on another Chetan bestseller, will do complete justice to Riya. Alia herself is keen to work with Mohit, who is her cousin,”

According to the source, Suri said, “Alia is an amazing actress. I’m currently developing the script and haven’t reached the casting stage. All I can say at the moment is that she’d be great for the part.”
