‘Aashiqui 2’ composer Ankit Tiwari arrested for alleged rape

Ankit Tiwari, award-winning composer and playback singer for ‘Aashiqui 2’ (2013), has been arrested for alleged rape, BizAsia has learnt. The lady in question is being referred to as his 28-year-old girlfriend.

She has accused Tiwari of raping her several times between October 2012 and December 2013, saying he promised her they would marry. It seems that as Tiwari has not married her, she decided to complain to the police.

Lawyer Nagesh Misha, who is representing both Tiwari and his brother Ankur who was also arrested, told PTI, “Why was the victim silent all this while? When she learnt that Ankit had become successful in his career, she came to us to demand money. But when we flatly refused to pay, she filed a false complaint against my clients”.

Tiwari has received much acclaim for his rendition and composition of ‘Sunn Raha Hai’ in ‘Aashiqui 2’, the female version of which is sung by Shreya Ghoshal.

Tiwari was booked under anti-rape charges in Versova this morning.
