Aamir Khan keen to essay Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj

In recent years we have seen an increase in period dramas being made in Bollywood on a grand scale alongside commercial films. For Aamir Khan this is good news, revealing that he would like to be in one too.

Reported by Deccan Chronicle, Khan who has recently announced that he will be in the adaptation of the American hit film ‘Forrest Gump’ (1994), said that he is glad to see more historical films being made. “I am happy that historical films are being made. I just wish that the research should be thorough. It depends on who is writing the history. The first layer of history should not be accepted, you should dig a little more.”

The ‘Secret Superstar’ (2018) actor was asked, if he had to choose to play a historical character, he said, “I really want to play Shivaji. I look like him. Also, I would love to do it.”

Khan has previously done a few films set in periodic times, such as, ‘Lagaan’ (2001), ‘Rang De Basanti’ (2006), and a biopic on the life of Mangal Pandey in ‘Mangal Pandey: The Rising’ (2005).
