ZEE Network is planning its own record label to compete with music giant, T-Series.

Recently, there has been news on a royalty issue between T-Series and a bevy of singer and music composers. Actor Abhay Deol took on T-Series over the issue for his film ‘One By Two’. Sonu Nigam, Sunidhi Chauhan and various others have all stood against T-Series stance.

Mid-Day reports that ZEE Network is set to take on T-Series by siding with musicians and singers and considering giving them royalty cuts for their work.

A source told Mid-Day, The chairman of Essel Group, Subhash Chandra, called for a meeting with the industry۪s top music directors, lyricists and producers where they were informed about ZEE۪s music label. He stressed on the fact that the company will seriously consider the amended copyright clause that deals with paying royalty to music composers and lyricists.۝

On hearing of ZEE Network’s plans, Bhushan Kumar of T-Series told Mid-Day, Music is a big market and recently it has incurred us losses, so we have now diversified into film production. Besides, we have always welcomed healthy competition from big names.۝

ZEE Network is said to have inked deals with a number of big projects including ‘Happy New Year’, ‘Holiday’ and Vashu Bhagnani’s new film. However, ZEE is keeping mum on the developments. Industry stalwarts like Sameer, Kailash Kher and Ehsaan Noorani have all welcomed the news.

ZEE Network previously set-up its label ZEE Records in the mid 90s but not much has released since then.
