ZEE Media to launch Urdu news channel in July

14

ZEE Media has firmed up plans to launch its first Urdu news channel.

The service, which will be known as ZEE Salaam, is expected to replace the existing Urdu entertainment channel, ZEE Salaam (same name) from 1st July. ZEE Salaam has already begun broadcasting news bulletins on the channel and will extend its news output to a full-fledged channel in the next couple of weeks.

It will be interesting to see if the channel paves its way to the UK as Urdu news channels have been dominating the South Asian news genre for years. Currently, Geo News, New Vision TV (ARY World) and Samaa TV have left the Urdu news genre in the UK.
